Our Very First Blog Post

Monique Weller

Hi, I’m Monique,

the founder of Cracked Polish. I started this brand with a simple goal: to create unique, joy filled colors that felt different from the typical shades found at the drugstore. When I discovered the indie polish community, I was completely captivated by the creativity, the finishes, and the bold “kitchen sink” combinations. But at the same time, I found myself searching for shades that felt wearable in an everyday, effortless way.

Of course, all nail polish is wearable, but I wanted to create colors that feel flattering on a wide range of people and easy to reach for no matter the occasion. I began with what some might call “basics,” then layered in something unexpected to make each shade feel special. I’ve always had a soft spot for vintage polishes, and I believe trends come back for a reason. Nothing truly goes out of style.

Creating a sense of inclusion has always been important to me. I’ve always been drawn to understanding undertones and finding colors that work beautifully across different skin tones. My background in beauty played a huge role in that. I was often the person that friends would turn to for lipstick recommendations, and more often than not, I could find the right match on the first try. I love helping people see beauty in things they may not have considered before. Like YAS you can pull that off!

I’ve never believed in putting myself, or my creativity, into a box. Life isn’t one-size-fits-all, and sometimes the most unexpected choices bring the most joy. That’s exactly what creating nail polish became for me. A creative challenge to bring something new to the industry, to develop finishes and shades I wasn’t seeing elsewhere.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about seeing the same polish look stunning on different people, across different skin tones and nail lengths. I love offering a range that feels like a one-stop shop, where everyone can find something that speaks to them.

For some, it’s just nail polish. But for us cronies, it’s self-care, self-expression, and a small moment of happiness in a bottle. Cracked Polish has given me a way to express myself beyond what I ever imagined, and it’s the support of this community that continues to inspire me every day. Thank you for your insight, ideas and feedback. Thank you for being here.

I reach for Cracked Polish over and over again when doing nail art because the formula is just one of the best! When applying Cracked as a base color it self levels so well whether cremes, jellies, or shimmer, and when painting details I know I can always count on strong color payoff which is very important to me!

Plaid looks can be tricky because they have so many long straight lines. A couple tips to help make them less scary:
- Use a long liner brush to help with precision and control
- Make sure the brush has polish fully worked in and around the bristles, but also make sure there isn’t so much polish that the brush has a drip at the tip
- Use fresh polish for each stroke to keep the lines crisp!
- Visually map where you want your line to end up and keep your focus there
- I like to use lines that are varying widths which I think visually adds interest but also allows a little forgiveness so that not all lines need to be exactly the same
- Hold your breath and say some prayers 😂🙏

Are We Over Milky Nails?

Milky white nails are one of those trends that never really leave they just come back with a new name. Clean nails, donut nails, soap nails. At the core, it’s always been about that healthy, polished look. With Pantone naming “Cloud Dancer” as color of the year, it’s no surprise this aesthetic is having another moment.

There’s something timeless about a soft, neutral manicure. It feels chic, effortless, and quietly put together. These shades act like a clean slate for your nails you don’t have to overthink. They’re low maintenance, versatile, and give you that fresh salon look without leaving home. And the best part is you can wear them again and again without ever feeling dated.

We’ve curated a few of our favorites so you can find your perfect version of this look.

Vanille
A sheer, milky white that flatters every skin tone. This jelly formula delivers a glossy, natural finish that mimics healthy nails. It’s buildable, so you can keep it barely-there or layer it up for a more pronounced milky effect. It’s also perfect for jelly sandwiches and marble nail art.

Donut Spunk
Donut Spunk - Cracked PolishOur original and custom oyster pearl finish. This is for anyone curious about dipping into pearlescent shades without going too bold. It creates a soft glow that’s especially stunning for bridal or special occasion manicures. It pairs beautifully with pink and neutral undertones. There's a reason it's often a first pick for new customers.

Lion’s Tooth
Lion's Tooth - Cracked PolishA creamy off-white with a soft vanilla tone. Ideal if you love the look of white nails but want something less stark. It complements deeper skin tones and olive undertones beautifully. Inspired by childhood wishes made on dandelions, this shade applies smoothly and avoids the usual fussiness of white polish.

I’m Shy
Think your nails but better. This milky pink crelly gives that soft, plump, gel-like effect with minimal effort. It’s the perfect grab-and-go shade when you want just a hint of color while still keeping things clean and natural. An easy way to refresh your nail wardrobe.

Pro-Tip: Keep these nails looking fresh by using a top and base coat. Prevent discoloration by wearing gloves when handling dark clothing, hair dye, or cleaning products, and avoid direct exposure to high heat.

Why is cuticle oil crucial in a healthy nail care routine?

The most common question we get asked is how do you maintain healthy nails and the key is hydrated nails are key! Be consistent and find a routine that works for you. Protect the nails by wearing gloves when you are cleaning or doing dishes. This is my favorite time to oil soak. Don't use your nails as tools. Our Pop Popper is great for this. Keeping them clean, shaped moisturized is crucial.

Why should you use it?

Cuticle oil is great for keeping your skin and nails strong. Oil helps prevent damage by keeping the cuticle area soft and flexible. It’s hydrating and helps the skin from spitting and forming painful hangnails. Stronger nails = longer nails, being able to maintain strength keeps brittle nails at bay.  Regular use protects against environmental damage that extends the life of manicures.

Who is it for?

Everyone!  Unless you are allergic to these oils they are great for everyday use and multiple times a day. It is especially great for people who frequently wash their hands or has exposure to harsh cleaners or lives in a dry/ cold climate.

What’s great about ours?

I spent a lot of time developing this oil, and the process was far more meticulous than I expected. I’m extremely particular about texture, so I researched extensively to create something that feels just right. The result is a lightweight, fast-absorbing oil that nourishes without leaving any heavy or greasy residue.

I chose a jojoba-based formula because it closely mimics our skin’s natural oils, allowing for deeper penetration and better hydration. It’s suitable for all skin types and packed with benefits rich in antioxidants, soothing for dry and sensitive skin, and supportive of overall skin elasticity. It also helps with dryness, the appearance of scars, and signs of aging.

Using organic, high-quality, and environmentally stable ingredients was non-negotiable for me because you deserve the best.

Moral of the story keep your cuticles hydrated. Don’t be crusty! Snag it here.

How to use: Apply a small drop to your cuticles and massage it into the surrounding skin and nail, ideally every night.
